Editor Layout

The editor is five surfaces: a toolbar across the top, a media sidebar on the left, the preview monitor in the middle, the timeline along the bottom, and the properties panel on the right.

The main surfaces

  • Toolbar (top): back to your projects, the workspace tabs, project specs, Settings, Keyboard Shortcuts, Save, Export, and the Render queue.
  • Media sidebar (left): your assets and the tools that create new items.
  • Preview monitor: the current frame, with overlays, masks, scopes, and playback controls.
  • Timeline (bottom): tracks, clips, markers, and the edit tools.
  • Properties (right): edits whatever you have selected.

The media sidebar tabs

TabWhat is in it
MediaYour project's assets, media info, proxies, transcripts, captions, compound clips
TextText clips from single-span and multi-span templates
ShapesShape items you can style, animate, and use as masks
EffectsGPU effects for the selected clip
TransitionsTransitions to drag onto a cut
AIText to speech and music generation, running in your browser

The three workspaces

The tabs in the center of the toolbar switch the whole layout.

  • Edit (Alt+1) is the default cutting layout: arranging, trimming, text, shapes, effects, transitions, and preview.
  • Color (Alt+2) is for grading, with color wheels, curves, and scopes for the selected clip. See Effects and Color.
  • Motion (Alt+3) is the layered composition workspace: layers, keyframes, graphs, presets, and procedural animation. See Motion and Animation Presets.

Select a visual clip in Edit and open Animation in Properties for the common presets, the applied-animation list, text motion, and Create Motion Clip.

Staying out of trouble

  • Save with Ctrl+S. Auto-save can also run on an interval you set in Settings.
  • Undo with Ctrl+Z and redo with Ctrl+Shift+Z.
  • Open Keyboard Shortcuts to search commands, rebind keys, and import or export presets. See Editor Keyboard Shortcuts.
  • The editor's appearance follows the light or dark theme you picked in 60 Minute Creator.
