Upscaler

The Upscaler node makes one image or one video sharper and bigger. It offers the same choices as the Upscaler in the Creative Hub, so a setting you like there works the same way in a workflow.

What it does

Pick Image or Video at the bottom of the card, connect one file, and run. The sharper copy comes out of the node and goes on to the next one, for example into Compose or into an Output node.

Inputs and outputs

  • Image or Video: the one file to upscale. The label follows the Image | Video switch, and so does what you can connect: an Upscaler set to Image only takes images, one set to Video only takes videos.
  • One file at a time: a node that holds more than one file won't connect. That covers a Media Library or Asset node with several files, an Influencer sending several angles, and an Image Generation node set to make several images. While you drag such a wire over the input, a note above the card says "The Upscaler takes one file at a time" and how many files the other node holds. A wire of the wrong kind gets a note too, telling you which kind the Upscaler takes. If a second file turns up after you connected it, for example you add one to the Media Library, the workflow won't start until there is one file again.
  • JPG or PNG pictures only: Atlas Cloud's image upscaler reads JPG and PNG files. A WebP, an AVIF or any other kind of picture is refused before anything is sent to Atlas Cloud, so it costs nothing. A Media Library file whose name ends in .webp (or another such format) won't connect at all. Every other picture is checked when the run starts. Videos have no such limit.
  • The input takes one connection. Once one is connected it won't take a second, and hovering it tells you to disconnect it first.
  • There is no Flow input. The Upscaler runs once the node before it is done, so it needs no wire from the Trigger.
  • Image or Video (output): the upscaled file, the same kind as the switch.

If nothing reaches the node, the workflow won't start and asks you to connect an image or a video. If a run still gets more than one file, for example from a Router, the Upscaler stops before it sends anything to Atlas Cloud.

Settings

  • Image | Video: what the node upscales. You can't switch it while wires are connected, because they would be left on the wrong kind of file. Hovering it shows "Remove the wires to switch to Video" (or to Image).

For an image:

  • Quality: Standard (generic upscale, fastest), Super (for AI-generated images), Ultra (more detail, the default) or Fidelity (highest fidelity, for e-commerce).
  • Size: 2x (the default) or 4x.
  • The upscaled image is saved as a PNG, so no quality is lost to compression.
  • A 4x upscale makes a very large picture. Video Generation models only take pictures up to a certain size, so a 4x picture is usually too big for a start frame. Use 2x when the picture goes on to a video, and 4x for final pictures.

For a video:

  • Scene: Common (the default), UGC, Short series, AIGC or Old film.
  • Resolution: 1080p (the default), 2K, 4K or 8K.

Once a result exists, the Download button on the card becomes active.

Click Save to Media, next to Download, to keep a copy in your Media Library, in the folder named after your workflow. It saves the file the card is showing, and the icon turns into a check once it's saved. If your storage is full, the card tells you and nothing is saved.

Price

The Upscaler runs on Atlas Cloud with your own key, like every node. What each upscale costs is on Model prices, under Creative Studio tools: the node and the Creative Hub use the same two models.

Tips

  • When an Upscaler feeds a Sequence, the Sequence collects the upscaled file, not the original.
  • The preview on the card resizes to the real shape of your finished file once it exists.
  • Large results, like an 8K video or a 4x picture, are saved in full.
