Exporting

The export runs in your browser, on your machine. Keep the tab open until it finishes.

Set up an export

  1. Open Export (Ctrl+Shift+E) and choose Export Video or Export Audio.
  2. Render the whole project, or just the current in/out range.
  3. Set Resolution and Quality for the job: a quick review, a shareable file, or a final master.
  4. Clear any preflight warnings, then render.

Higher resolution and quality take longer and make bigger files. When a project has more than the Main timeline, a Sequence menu at the top of the dialog picks which timeline to export, at its own resolution and range.

Formats

OutputFormats
Video containersMP4, MOV, WebM, MKV
Audio onlyMP3, AAC, WAV
Soft subtitle trackWebM, MKV

Which codecs you get depends on your browser. The editor warns you or falls back when one is not available.

Subtitles

When a video export has a transcript, the Subtitles control decides how the captions ship. The options change with the container you picked.

ModeWhat it does
OffNo captions in the exported video.
Burn inCaptions are drawn into the frame, so every player shows them.
Sidecar .srtClean video plus a separate .srt file downloaded alongside it.
Embedded trackA soft, switchable subtitle track carried inside the container.

The embedded-track option only appears for WebM and MKV. On MP4 and MOV, burn them in or take the sidecar file, or switch container for a switchable track. Some players hide subtitle tracks by default, so viewers may need to turn them on.

Preflight checks

Preflight runs before rendering and flags the usual blockers: an empty range, missing media, an unavailable codec, a fallback to main-thread export, a large file, or a long render. For a quick sanity check, export a short in/out range before committing to the full thing.

Render and download

  • Progress moves through preparing, rendering, encoding, and finalizing. You can Cancel at any point.
  • Background export runs off the main thread when your browser allows it. The fallback wants the tab focused and otherwise idle.
  • When it completes, choose Download to save the file to your computer.

The finished file is also kept by the editor in this browser, under Saved exports in the Render queue dialog, so you can download it again later from the same device. It is not uploaded to your Media Library or to your account, so download anything you want to keep.

To render several exports without babysitting them, add them to the queue instead. See Render Queue.
